4.1 Properties of Minerals



Vocabulary


inorganic- cannot arise from materials that used to be part of something living.
crystal- a solid with flat sides(faces) that meet at edges and corners.
element- is a substance made from one kind of atom.
compound- two or more elements that combine together so you cannot tell which properties the elements have.
streak-color of a minerals powder.
luster-how a mineral reflects off light.
cleavage- a mineral that breaks easily from flat places.
fracture- how a mineral looks when it breaks apart weirdly.
fluorescence- minerals that glow under UV(ultra-violet) light.
